Katrina Kaif is the phataka in demand

What is Diwali without some good old fireworks and crackers? It’s also now a yardstick of a Bollywood star’s popularity with the junta at the rate a firecracker named after them sells.

Last year’s blockbuster Dabangg continues to make ripples at the firecracker stores with a unique brand of firecrackers known as the Chubul Pandey rockets. But more than the Bollywood heroes, it’s the Bollywood heroines who actually rule the cracker street.

Himmat Chavan, store owner says, “These are the crackers that get sold out very quickly. Hindi film stars ki toh bahut chalti hai. People get attracted to the pictures on the packaging and buy them. But most of them are costly ones, all fancy stuff,” he says pointing to the rows of Katrina Kaif’s Funky Dream multi-shot rockets.

When it comes to crackling sex appeal, it clearly seems to veer to actress Katrina Kaif, who has zameen chakri to her name since last year. Close on her heels is actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

A cracker calledFlying Rani, which emits unusual colours while burning, has been named after actress Rani Mukerji. But veteran actress Hema Malini continues to be the perennial favourite since the 1970s when she ruled as ‘Dream Girl’. Her images continue to adorn covers of crackers like Sholay bomb at a time when even Hollywood’s glam brigade led by actor Angelina Jolie are making their presence felt at the stalls.

Vicky Tikmani, a firecracker store owner, adds that there’s a huge demand for cartoon characters too.

“Pokemon, Monster, Dragonballs — all these are in huge demand. They mostly interest children, so we also make sure that these firecrackers are the kinds that children can handle.”

Will Katrina crush Aishwarya?

Aishwarya Rai with her husband Mr. Abhishek Bacchchan
While Dabangg Salman Khan has emerged the most Wanted actor on the Bollywood firmament with Bodyguard smashing all past records of the film industry, his ex-girlfriends too, are getting Ready to show the world, they too are Tigresses in their own right.

Aishwarya Rai and Katrina Kaif are pitted opposite each other in the Best Actress category in the Dainik Bhaskar Group’s Bhaskar Bollywood Awards; touted as India’s first democratic awards.

Nominated for their outstanding performances in Sanjay Leela Bansali`s Guzaarish and Prakash Jha’s Raajneeti, the beauties are slugging it out in competition, with votes from the aam junta across the globe through the media group’s print and online mediums.

While Katrina surprised one and all with her deglam yet power-packed performance in Raajneeti, Aishwarya too won millions of hearts with her role of a strong yet vulnerable Sofia in Guzaarish.

In the recent past, the Kaif girl has walked away with loads of superhits and accolades, leaving a lot of heroines behind. But with Aishwarya’s stellar performance in Guzaarish this time, it’s sure going to be tougher. Let’s see if Kat manages to bite Ash this time round!

Katrina Kaif wants to get back with Salman Khan

If sources are to be believed, Katrina Kaif is only too happy to be doing 'Ek Tha Tiger' with Salman. The last film that Salman and Kat did together was Yuvraj that released way back in 2008. The two haven't shared screen space together post that.

However, with Salman's good run at the box office, and her own stars shining bright, Katrina is more upbeat about Ek Tha Tiger than she ever was. However, we hear that Katrina is also trying to convince Salman to come out with a sequel to 'Partner'.

With Salman doing so many sequels from Dabangg to Wanted and Tere Naam, Katrina is only hoping that a Partner 2 is also well underway. Talk about making hay while the sun lasts.

Katrina Kaif turns singer for Dhoom 3

Katrina Kaif's dream of taking her mother, brother and sisters on a long vacation has to be put on hold for the time being.

After completing the current schedule of Ek Tha Tiger in Dublin, the actress will have to start preparing for her character in Dhoom 3 in the month that she had kept aside for her family holiday.

According to sources, Katrina has received an urgent return-to-duty call from Yashraj Films to not just learn some heavy-duty stunts but also exercise her vocal cords for her role in the sequel to Dhoom.

The actress will need to undertake para gliding lessons and a full-fledged singing course for the project. "Katrina has to go one up on the last Dhoom heroine Aishwarya Rai. That's a tall order in itself," informed a source.

Katrina, who had been planning to sing for Ali Zaqfar's album has yet been uninitiated into the realm of music. This will be the first time Katrina will sing for herself in a film.

Apart from the singing, Katrina it seems has a lot of pending work for the same film. She will need to discuss with Aditya Chopra and director Vijay Krishna Acharya about the look, body language, spoken language and attitude of her character in the project.

In fact, the singing portions of her character are now being worked out, waiting for Katrina to come down and lend her voice. Katrina remained unavailable for comment.

Bollywood Actor Katrina Kaif prefers to stay mum

After putting to rest speculation about will-she-or-will-she-won’t star in Dhoom 3, by confirming her role, actor Katrina Kaif finds herself in yet another series of speculations. This time whether she will don the bikini or not and also whether she will agree to the kissing scenes or not? But Katrina prefers not to be dragged into this whirlwind. Whether it’s speculation about her personal life or professional, Kat chooses not to get into a clarifications zone, preferring to keep mum.

“As actors our lives are out there for the public to see. And I have realised that no matter how much one clarifies, there’ll always be speculation, if not one thing then the next. To what extent does one clarify?” she quips. While she chooses not to talk about her personal life at all, she lets the filmmakers talk about her role. “I think it’s right for them to make the required announcements,” she says.

The actor who’s at present shooting in Dublin also says that as an actor, she is ready to give her best that’s required for the role. “Well, I didn’t know scuba diving or deep-sea diving, but I did do it for Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. But it wasn’t something you plan in advance. If a role requiresme to do something and if I are convinced then I’d just do it. But what’s equally important for me is to feel that I can trust the filmmaker,” explains Katrina.

The actor’s recent successes have her smiling already, and though Katrina says that hits are always nice to have, her only aim really is to do films that would take her a step further as an actor. “I want to try new genres, push my limit as an actor and surprise myself too,” she smiles.

Katrina Kaif: Rise of a superstar

MUMBAI - In an industry that is still slave to dynasty and lineage, a British-Asian girl emerges from nowhere and attains vertiginous heights in Bollywood. Katrina Kaif has defied all conventional film wisdom - she barely spoke Hindi, her acting skills came up for debate and she is politically correct in interviews to the point of boredom. But Katrina has the x-factor, accentuated by an angelic face and a body that could tempt the devil. Katrina’s box-office track record is enviable. Considered a good luck mascot, she is much in demand and is probably among the few actresses who can boast of working with all the Khans. But her superstar status today is by no means a fluke.

Perhaps the fact that Katrina has not grown up with a sense of entitlement, like other star kids, has contributed to her success. She never seems to take her success for granted. Directors vouch for her commitment, and her acting skills and diction have improved over the years. And she seems to have mastered the art of Khan management. No mean feat, if you think about it. Katrina has delicately worked around temperamental boyfriends, bloated egos and fickle relationships and built goodwill that spans diverse camps. Yet for all her astute networking, few seem to know the real Katrina. Vague information filters in about her past, she hides behind a veneer of correctness. What we don’t know about her just seems to add to her mystique.

Katrina first floated into the industry with her debut, ‘Boom’ (2003). The director though, refuses to talk about his discovery as he tersely says, “I don’t want to hurt anyone.” ‘Boom’ producer Ayesha Shroff is more forthcoming, “During the course of some research, Kaizad chanced upon her. He tells me that a few days later, she went to his house and asked him, ‘I’m interested in India. Do you think I have a future in India as a model or in films?’ She came down to Mumbai, auditioned and got the role. I thought she would have a career here. At that time, there was nobody with a good body, no one was wearing bikinis.”

But where did Kaizad meet her? Ayesha refuses to say. What she does talk about is how Katrina got her last name. “Her passport says Turquotte. We thought we’d give her some kind of Indian ancestry, to connect with the audience. But then we thought that Kazi sounded too... religious? Mohammad Kaif was at the top, and so we said, Katrina Kaif sounds really great. In fact, the brochures for the press say Katrina Kazi. We passed that off saying, ‘Oh that’s a printing mistake,” says Ayesha. Is Katrina in touch with her? “No. But that’s a personal choice. What hurts me is that when ‘Boom’ released, she was seeing Salman, she dismissed her debut saying she didn’t know what she was doing and so she did the bikini scene, the smooching scene. She knows what she has going and doesn’t want to jeopardise it.”

After ‘Boom’, her early success was ‘Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya’ and later ‘Partner’, both starring Salman. The director says that it was her attention to scenes and rehearsals that was endearing. She didn’t throw tantrums and she was friendly and warm. Salman at that time was always teaching her a thing or two on the sets, but the director insists, “Just being in someone’s good books doesn’t work. The audience really loves her.” This sentiment is echoed by her ‘Tees Maar Khan’ director Farah Khan, “Katrina has the X-factor. There are prettier girls who haven’t made it. She has the same fire that actresses like Sridevi and Madhuri had. The audiences love her, especially the kids.” Farah adds that no one promotes a film like Katrina does. And that she has never heard Katrina backbite. She says, “Katrina stresses about the way she looks. But she never frets over petty issues like ‘my vanity van is too small’. Katrina is quite the family girl.”

In an earlier interview, Katrina said, “All my life I have judged my worth by how much I have been loved by a man. It’s so with a lot of women, that their self-esteem is measured by how much they are loved by a man, their partner, their boyfriend or may be their husband. In my case, it may be because I grew up without my father. But now that I am more mature and not eighteen any more; I have learnt to overcome that and understand that I have my own destiny and life.” Destiny’s child has come into her own.

I have my own destiny and life: Katrina Kaif

In an industry that is still slave to dynasty and lineage, a British-Asian girl emerges from nowhere and attains vertiginous heights in Bollywood.

Katrina Kaif has defied all conventional film wisdom - she barely spoke Hindi, her acting skills came up for debate and she is politically correct in interviews to the point of boredom. But Katrina has the X-factor, accentuated by an angelic face and a body that could tempt the devil. Who else could pull off a raunchy Sheila ki Jawaani with lyrics like 'khudko pyaar karoon main' with such playful innocence?

Katrina's box-office track record is enviable, as proved again recently by Mere Brother Ki Dulhan.

She never seems take her success for granted. Directors vouch for her commitment, and her acting skills and diction have amped up over the years.

What we don't know about her just seems to add to her mystique.

The early days
Katrina first floated into the industry with her debut, Kaizad Gustad's Boom (2003). The director though, refuses to talk about his discovery as he tersely says, "I don't want to hurt anyone."

Boom's producer Ayesha Shroff is more forthcoming, "During the course of some research, Kaizad chanced upon her. He tells me that a few days later, she went to his house and asked him, 'I'm interested in India.

Do you think I have a future in India as a model or in films?' She came down to Mumbai, auditioned and got the role. I think she had done some modeling in London. I thought she would have a career here. At that time, there was nobody with a good body, no one was wearing bikinis."

But where did Kaizad meet her? Ayesha refuses to say. "I can't talk about it. What's the point? What she has achieved is admirable and it's not easy for a woman to pull herself out of nothing and make such a huge name for herself."

What she does talk about is how Katrina got her last name. "Her passport says Turquotte. We created an identity for her. She was this pretty young English girl, and we gave her the Kashmiri father and thought of calling her Katrina Kazi. We thought we'd give her some kind of Indian ancestry, to connect with the audience. Those times were different, now people are more accepting. But then we thought that Kazi sounded too... religious? We were to introduce her to the press and at that time, Mohammad Kaif was at the top, and so we said, Katrina Kaif sounds really great. In fact, the brochures for the press say Katrina Kazi. We passed that off saying, 'Oh that's a printing mistake," says Ayesha.

Is Katrina in touch with her? "No. But that's a personal choice. What hurts me is that she distances herself from Boom. When Boom released, she was seeing Salman, she dismissed her debut saying she didn't know what she was doing and so she did the bikini scene, the smooching scene. No one put a gun to anybody's head. She is a very intelligent young woman, she knows what she has going and doesn't want to jeopardize it."

The rise
After Boom, her early success was David Dhawan's Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya and later Partner, both starring Salman. The director fondly recalls, "She was young when I met her, but her presence was very strong. She's very beautiful. She barely knew enough Hindi to save her skin. But her dedication was very strong and she was a good learner. She had the making of a heroine."

Dhawan says that it was her attention to scenes and rehearsals that was endearing. She didn't throw tantrums and she was friendly and warm. He adds with a laugh, "I took her for granted when we shot Partner. She hasn't changed, so much respect she gives me. She is looking very good, is still very insecure and that is important for an actor. It becomes difficult to hold on and live up to the success tag."

Salman at that time was always teaching her a thing or two on the sets, but the director insists, "Just being in someone's good books doesn't work. The audience really loves her."

This sentiment is echoed by her Tees Maar Khan director Farah Khan, "Katrina has the X-factor. There are prettier girls who haven't made it. She has the same fire that actresses like Sridevi and Madhuri had. The audiences love her, especially the kids."

Farah adds that no one promotes a film like Katrina does. And that she has never heard Katrina backbite. She says, "Katrina stresses about the way she looks. But she never frets over petty issues like my vanity van is too small."

Though Akshay Kumar had recommended her, Farah was initially hesitant, "I thought they'd done too many films together." On the sets, Farah was no closer to knowing Katrina intimately. She laughs, "I don't think anyone in the industry really knows her, give or take one or two people. But I've met her mother. Katrina is quite the family girl."

Managing relationships
Akshay and Katrina's chemistry had also proved to be a hit with films like Namastey London and Singh is Kinng. In past interviews, she has acknowledged Akshay and Salman's contribution to her career. She makes for a good leading lady with the younger heroes like Ranbir and Imran as well. And she can boast of a Yash Raj film with Shah Rukh and Dhoom 3 with Aamir. Add to the that, she has the instinct for the right scripts and working with the right people.

To maintain relationships with the big boys of Bollywod calls for immense dexterity. Her dignified silence and denials about link-ups has ensured that she doesn't tread on anyone's toes. There were reports of Salman having slapped her at a coffee shop in 2008, but she denied the incident. Now as they shoot for Ek Tha Tiger in Ireland, they are reportedly fond of each other and there is no bitterness as they shoot together.

In an earlier interview with Mumbai Mirror, she said, "All my life I have judged my worth by how much I have been loved by a man. It's so with a lot of women, that their self-esteem is measured by how much they are loved by a man, their partner, their boyfriend or may be their husband. In my case, it may be because I grew up without my father. But now that I am more mature and not eighteen any more, I have learnt to overcome that and understand that I have my own destiny and life." Destiny's child has come into her own.

Katrina Kaif to miss the kiss?

It's not just the bikini that Katrina Kaif has a problem with in Dhoom 3. It is learnt that Kat is now expressing her reservation over a kiss scene as well.
While the franchise had a kissing scene in the last film between Hrithik and Aishwarya, this time around, Kaif is putting in a special request to do away with the scene. Will Aditya Chopra give in?

Katrina may star in Ali Zafar’s next music video

Bollywood's lucky mascot Katrina Kaif may soon star in musician/actor Ali Zafar's music video, thanks to a bet that took place on the sets of their last film Mere Brother Ki Dulhan.

The story goes that Katrina had promised co-star Ali that she'd star in his next music video if the film made a box office milestone...that day isn't too far considering that Mere Brother Ki Dulhan has crossed the 50 crore mark .

Says Ali "I have a written consent from Katrina, along with a video recording on my phone, but I won't pressurize her. If she wants, I'll compose a song for her and we'll record it next time we're in Mumbai, probably in November for the MBKD success bash"

For Katrina Kaif, the singer/actor is willing to experiment with the song that promises to show fans a new side of her."She's a delicate soul. If she appears in my video, you'll see a side to Katrina you've never seen before" adds Ali.

Finally Katrina Kaif wins a role in Dhoom 3

It's always been the leading ladies who have worked their magic on the popular Dhoom franchise. First up, it was Esha Deol in Dhoom, followed by Aishwarya Rai's green-eyed presence in the second instalment, and now Yash Raj Films (YRF) has signed girl-of-the-moment, Katrina Kaif, for the third movie in the action-adventure series, opposite Aamir Khan's anti-hero.

Bollywood sources have spilled that YRF was initially on the lookout for a fresh face, but was unable to find the perfect newcomer to take on the lead role in the movie, which is so far slated for a 2012 December release.

"We even reached out to international talent, but were still unable to find someone who stood out," says director Vijay ‘Victor' Acharya.

But finally, it was Victor along with producer Aditya Chopra who decided to cast Katrina, fresh off the success of her recent outings in Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, revealing, "Once we decided to go with a known face and not pursue the newcomer route, Katrina was the obvious choice for all of us," adding, "She is someone who we all know will bring tremendous enthusiasm and commitment to the film. And the first-time pairing of Aamir with Katrina on the big screen will also certainly add value."

Ali Zafar and Katrina Kaif Become Best Buddies

Ali Zafar and Katrina Kaif friendship on the sets of a film has raised its level and both have become best friends now.Though actors becoming friends while shooting for a film together is not a new story in bollywood however; only few relationships last. A few actors are only able to squeeze time out of their tight schedules for each other after the togetherness of the shooting period ends.

Packed shooting schedules unable to hinder their friendship
Among such selected few are the actors like Katrina Kaif and her co-star Ali Zafar who have well maintained their friendships beyond their packed shooting schedules. Both managed their friendship very well during their shoot for their latest film and are in touch with each other even after the shooting.
Katrina is famous as a very simple and undemanding person in the industry however; she had expressed her problems in managing her friendships in the industry. She had said, “It becomes very difficult to have the same set of people around, as you are constantly on the move. Doing a film takes up so much of your time. When you do a film you get involved in it. For the next three months that unit becomes your family and then once the film wraps up, that world ends. Yes you do make friends, but sometimes that changes as well."

Ali treats Kat like a younger sister
Though Salman is still the first point of contact for Katrina in times of need, but the best friends’ relationship developed between her and Ali can’t also be denied. As per the information provided by a closed source, "Ali treats Kat like a younger sister. He looks after her and makes sure that she is well taken care of. His wife too is very fond of Katrina and looks forward to meeting her."

Ali had also organized a party to celebrate the success of the film and the entire cast and crew of the film was invited in that. To everyone’s dismay, Katrina had to leave for Dublin on the same day but she came to the party though for not much time. Commenting on this, a source revealed, "Katrina was to fly to Dublin that same night. But, since Ali had made a special request, she came to the party for a while. Ali, who was very happy to have her around sang a song dedicating it to Kat, before she left. She in turn had a big smile on her face all through the party. They both have now become very close and are almost like family to each other.”

Salman romances Katrina in Ireland

In between his trips to the US for surgery, Salman finds time to romance Katrina in Ireland, writes Nimisha Tiwari

Work comes first for Salman Khan. And everyone knows that. Despite gruelling pain pangs due to trigeminal neuralgia, a facial nerve problem, he went ahead with the shoot schedule in Ireland for Ek Tha Tiger.

Paired opposite his former beau Katrina Kaif, the fun quotient was evidently high on the sets in Ireland. And when Kat's around, it's go to get smoking hot around. Sources say that the duo were very friendly and cordial with each other. Amongst others, who came to meet the Bollywood actors, the tourism ministry of Ireland also extended a warm welcome to the cast and crew there. In fact, one of the clap shots was flagged off by Ireland tourism ministers in a location called Dublin. The film is scheduled to be released worldwide on June 1, 2012.

Bollywood Star Katrina Kaif wins her ‘no-bikini’ clause!

Now, one of the most sought after actresses in Bollywood, Katrina Kaif had kick-started her career in the industry as a “bikini-girl” in `Boom`.
The film proved to be a huge dud and so was Katrina’s bikini act. But since then Katrina has walked miles so much so that she has now started calling the shots!

Apparently, Kat has been signed for ‘Dhoom 3’ as the leading lady opposite Aamir Khan.

The earlier franchises of the film had the leading ladies sizzling in bikinis and Kat was required to do the same. But Aditya, the Yash Raj scion seems to have given in to Kat’s convictions just like he did for Ash in `Dhoom 2`.

A source informed a tabloid that Aditya had categorically told Katrina that she would be required to wear a bikini in the film. In the past too, YRF had got Esha Deol and Bipasha Basu to don the two-piece swimwear for `Dhoom` and `Dhoom 2` respectively.

“Whether they did it willingly or reluctantly, nobody knows. But Katrina was extremely reluctant,” said the source.

As reported by the tabloid, the source said, “Aditya is very fond of Katrina and they are very good friends. He had other options, including a few foreign actresses, but Katrina towered above all those options. Katrina managed to convince Aditya that it was not necessary for her to wear a bikini in the film.”

Talking about the entire bikini issue, another source said, “Aditya is not even disappointed. In fact, he is very happy that Katrina is on board. Bikini ka problem shayyad ek hi reason tha that he took so long to finalise the female lead in the film.”

Justifying Katrina’s no-bikini clause, a friend of the actress said, “Today, Katrina is a big star. She adds tremendous value to a project. She is justified in her reservations, if any, when she signs a film.”

Well done girl. That’s like a commanding woman!

Katrina Kaif's panty show

While shooting for ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ in Dublin, Katrina Kaif suffered a big oops moment when her skirt went up and her panty made a big show. In the scene, Katrina Kaif was riding a cycle when her skirt went up. Kat least had the idea that she had suffered a big wardrobe malfunction.

Her short skirt was obviously not suitable for the particularly scene. Before the  damage could be more dangeous, her ex-flame Salman Khan rushed to Katrina’s rescue and stopped her from any more disastrous.

This is not the first time that any actress in Bollywood suffered wardrobe malfunction. In the past, actresses like Shamita Shetty, Yana Gupta, Sonali Bendra and the list goes on who had gone through this awkward moment.

Katrina Kaif’s wardrobe malfunction | Katrina Kaif has an oops moment while shooting with Salman Khan

Katrina Kaif has been shooting Ek Tha Tiger with Salman Khan in Dublin and we have been consistently bringing you the production stills from the sets.

It was while shooting at Trinity College Dublin that Katrina Kaif, clad in a short dress, suffered a wardrobe malfunction. She was trying to get on a bicycle and her short skirt wasn’t really designed for it. The moment she lifted her leg...oops!...her underwear was exposed.

Not just that, Katrina even fell off the cycle.

Katrina Kaif will help sister Isabelle to get a dream Bollywood debut!

From a simple model to an actress, Katrina Kaif has indeed turned herself into a big Bollywood star. Now her sister Isabelle, too, wants to enter Bollywood. Is Katrina paying any heed?

Well, yes! Katrina Kaif, who is very close to her family, knows that her younger sister has Bollywood dreams, but she won’t launch her. Isabelle is studying acting in the US and it is still early to say anything about her B-town debut, believes badi didi Kat, who has no intention of producing a film for her sister, say reports.

“Isabella is still studying acting. When the time is right, I will definitely help her get a good launch because by now, I pretty much know everyone in the industry, but I will not be producing a film for her,” says Katrina while talking to a daily.

Earlier, when Isabelle was spotted with director Ayan Mukherjee at a filmy do, speculations were rife that she might do a film with Ayan. When in India, Isabelle hobnobs with her Bollywood acquaintances and friends, thanks to her actress sister, and to go by Kat comment, we know Isabelle will have a dream launch, even if it won’t be produced by Kat.

Katrina Kaif has just landed a role in Yashraj’s ambitious project Dhoom 3. She will share screen space with none other than Aamir Khan in the film.

What do you think of Isabelle! Is she as beautiful as Katrina to be a Bollywood stunner?

Ex-lovers Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif bonding again?

Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif have been shooting in Dublin for Yashraj's Ek Tha Tiger for nearly two weeks now and the latest gossip from the set is that the two ex-lovers are bonding again.

Salman resumed the shoot of Kabir Khan's movie immediately post his surgery.

He was suffering from a nerve disorder and was operated in a New Jersey hospital last month.
After recuperating from his illness he began shooting with Katrina Kaif in Dublin.

It is said Katrina is taking good care of Salman on the sets. She often openly shows her concern for his health. On the other hand Salman too is not behind in showing his affection towards Katrina.

From Salman's recent statement about Katrina, it was clear that he still has a soft corner for her. Once Katrina, who plays a college student in the movie, and Salman, who essays a secret service agent were shooting for a sequence where she had to ride a bicycle.

Katrina fell from the cycle. Seeing this Salman immediately rushed to her rescue before anyone else could.
